FC Monmouth's 2025 Season Recap
Written by Chris Dailey
Following a hard-fought loss to Atlantic City FC in The League for Clubs’ (TLFC) playoffs, FC Monmouth has officially concluded the best year in the club’s eight-year history.
Collectively, the men’s and women’s teams picked up 13 total wins, scored 47 goals, and went near-perfect at home. Lenny Aviles and Kiki Barber paved the way for both sides with four goals each. Meanwhile, Davide Caputo registered seven assists for the men’s team.
In their seventh season of league play – their first in TLFC – the Blue and Gold elevated themselves to national contender status. The team was consistently ranked top 10 in the country in TLFC’s power rankings, reaching as high as No. 2. The team went 8-1-1 through the regular season, just behind Met Oval FC. Though they battled hard, Hugh MacDonald’s side fell to Atlantic City FC in the Northeast Conference playoff semi-finals. However, there was an immense feeling of pride within the group as they made history by securing their first playoff spot since 2021.
“It’s truly been a pleasure to see on-field success with the men’s team this season. Reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2021 is something that should not be taken lightly,” said General Manager James Davis.
Davis continued, “Even how things stood many would argue that they should have gone even further. It’s a largely new group, and one of the youngest in the country. If they stick together and continue to develop with the guidance of Hugh and Evan I think we can see some good seasons at Count Basie in the future.”
The women’s side also achieved great success. Following their unofficial 2024 season, which consisted of several friendly matches against nearby clubs, the team joined the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) – the largest women’s soccer league in the world. The Blue and Gold notched five wins and two draws, garnering 17 points en route to a second-place finish in the Colonial Division.
Unlike the men’s team in TLFC, only one team in the Colonial Division makes the WPSL playoffs, leaving FC Monmouth just on the bubble. Regardless, the club seamlessly transitioned to life in the WPSL.
William & Mary midfielder Paige Seitz starred for FC Monmouth, especially in matchweek five. Seitz scored three goals and delivered one assist throughout the week, earning national recognition as the WPSL’s attacker of the week. The prestigious honor is one that has been held by some of the best women’s soccer players in the country, including past and present USWNT players.
“We’re very proud of Paige and how she was able to help put FC Monmouth on the map this summer. We have not had national recognition for an individual player since Walter Calderon in 2021. Of the thousands of players in the WPSL, Paige received national player of the week honors. The award is a testament to her hard work as well as the success that she and her teammates had on the field this season,” stated Davis.
The women’s team’s success took everyone in the WPSL by surprise, excelling despite their label as new kids on the block.
Davis sang nothing but praise for the women’s team, sharing, “If you want to talk about exceeding expectations it has to be this year's women’s team. We came in with high hopes for them given how well they performed in 2024, but honestly we weren’t 100% sure how they would fare in the WPSL. The bar was at the top of the kitchen cabinets and they smashed through the ceiling. 2nd place in an incredibly talented division. National team of the week. You name it. Again you could argue that they deserved more, but if you told me that they would be in this position at the start of the season I would have been elated. They’re a great group on and off the field and I look forward to seeing them grow for the future.”
The 2025 season wasn’t just marked by on-field success. Fan turnout reached unprecedented levels, both in person and online.
