WRITTEN BY: Chris Dailey
FC Monmouth is set to take on Philadelphia Union Developmental Squad on Saturday night at 6 PM. The game will mark FC Monmouth’s last game of the 2023 season and will be played at the historic Count Basie Park in Red Bank, New Jersey.
FC Monmouth are eager to battle for three points following a disappointing result away from home when they fell to local rivals, Jackson Lions FC, 2-0.
The game will be bittersweet as players from all around the globe who shared the pitch together for the spring & summer season will be going their separate ways.
“I don't think we played very well last time against the Union. We have a chance to really show what we can do. It's going to be a great day. Lots of stuff going on, hopefully we can get a result for the fans and staff that supported us all season,” said Head Coach, John Killick.
FC Monmouth fell 3-2 in the reverse fixture against the Union away from home in a game flooded with close chances and jaw-dropping moments.
Johnny Troiano and Tyler Hutchinson both scored a goal and Brett Sieg put together a great shift in the midfield.
A win would put FC Monmouth at 9 points on the season, just shy of a playoff spot.
Despite the unlucky results, however, FC Monmouth will rejoice on the final day and celebrate an otherwise successful season.
With good crowds and great team chemistry, FC Monmouth has still managed to put together a season for the history books.
“I loved it,” said Jack Wagoner in regards to his time with FC Monmouth, “the guys have been great. I’m loving the area. As much as we want results, we’re happy playing together.”
All Ocean United players who wear their jersey will be admitted for free.
