FC Monmouth's Two Goals Weren't Enough Against Philadelphia Union DS

FC Monmouth fell to Philadelphia Union Development Squad 3-2 away from home at YSC Academy on Saturday night.
Monmouth’s two goals scored by John Troiano on a volley and a tap-in from Tyler Hutchinson after a brilliant run of dribbling by Brett Sieg were canceled out by three goals from the Union.
The game proved to be another tough loss for FC Monmouth, who’ve had unfortunate luck with results so far throughout the season.
Despite the scoreline not being in FC Monmouth’s favor, goalkeeper AJ Montana proved to be a big-moment player with a great save off of a Union penalty kick and followed it up with yet another stop.
“Honestly, I just read the player. He opened up his hips so I dove to my left and made the first save, second shot came in and I stuck my other hand out and made the save. I did my job and did all I could, and we fought hard today, but just unlucky we couldn’t get a result,” said Montana following the game.
Head Coach John Killick wasn’t fully pleased with the performance of his team, and is demanding more from his squad to get the results they desperately hope for as the season rounds out, however, he understands the fact that FC Monmouth finds trouble against teams that play together for a full calendar year as compared to FC Monmouth’s short season.
“I thought we played well, but there are things to work on at practice. It’s tough to play against these teams that play all year round, I thought we did okay.”
FC Monmouth will hope to rebound on this performance when they play Atlantic City FC at Count Basie Park in Red Bank on June 10 at 6 PM. The gates will be open to the public at 5 PM.
FC Monmouth lost to bitter rivals Atlantic City 3-1 in the reverse fixture away from home on May 31, however, it was chances galore for Monmouth in a game that could’ve gone either way.
