FC Monmouth will open the 2019 NPSL season at Count Basie Park when they welcome New Jersey Copa FC to Red Bank on Saturday evening.

In the club’s inaugural 2018 season, FC Monmouth and Copa matched up twice. On June 13th, the two sides battled out a 2-2 draw in Red Bank that was full of fireworks. Forward Jordan Saling, who will be returning to Count Basie Park in a Copa uniform on Saturday, scored in the first half to put Monmouth back in the lead at 2-1 before Copa eventually found a second equalizer to tie it at the 2-2 final.

Arguably, the greatest moment in FC Monmouth’s short history came in the rematch with Copa on July 7th at Mercer County Community College. Needing to get all three points on the road from Copa to slide into the fourth and final playoff spot in the Keystone Conference, Monmouth emphatically defeated them 3-1 on the final day of the regular season.

NJ Copa FC already has an NPSL game under their belt heading into the match with FC Monmouth. They opened their season at home on May 11th where they drew with Hershey FC, 1-1. Jordan Saling scored his first goal for Copa in the draw.

Pre-Match Quotes

“Copa is a very good team, one that is well-oiled in the center of midfield, with the players they have I think that they’re very special - their center midfielders. We’re going to be playing against one of our guys from last year, Jordan Saling, who is obviously their biggest threat right now to score and I just think it’s going to be a very difficult game with a team that is well-seasoned in what they’re doing.” - Head Coach Brian Woods

“I think ever since the first training session we’ve been progressing pretty well and I think it’s pretty exciting to play a match on Saturday. We’re just focused on playing our game and I think if we work hard enough we can get a good result against Copa.” - Defender Dylan McDonald

“I’m feeling very confident going into the home opener. Training this week just built a lot of confidence I think in a lot of us and you just want to have that going into the game with limited sessions.” - Forward Anthony Rovito
