FC Monmouth will battle West Chester United SC this Saturday night at Count Basie Park with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance. Monmouth’s 4-0 win on the road to BuxMont Torch FC last weekend put them up to 13 points on the season as they sit just outside of the top four in the Keystone Conference table.

West Chester United opened up their 2018 NPSL campaign with four victories before suffering their first defeat at the hands of FC Monmouth’s final regular season opponent New Jersey Copa FC on June 9th. After rebounding with a 7-0 rout over Torch FC, West Chester United lost for the second time this season to Junior Lone Star FC, 1-0.

Pre-Match Quotes

“We never knew that with a new team, in an inaugural season, with a young bunch of guys that we’d ever get to this situation where games at the end of the season were gonna matter. Now we’re in a situation where the game does matter, we couldn’t be more excited about it… Win, lose, or draw, these guys fought to get to this position. Four wins and a tie in their first season and with a chance to possibly make the playoffs is all we could ever ask for.” – Head Coach Brian Woods

“We know they’re [WCUSC] guys who have been together a while, a lot of D1 guys too, we know they’re a solid club. We know it’s gonna be a tough game… everything’s on the line for both of us.” – Forward Ryan Hammer

About West Chester United SC

West Chester United SC hails from West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Via their official website, “WCUSC was founded in 1976 with four teams playing a fall season at Hillsdale Elementary School. The purpose of the club, then and now, is to provide the youth of West Chester and the surrounding area an opportunity to play the game of soccer at a variety of levels of instruction and competition. The club started as a small instructional program and then added competitive teams that played "travel" soccer against other clubs in the Delaware-Chester county area and beyond. The club has progressed over the years to become a full service club with over 3400 members.”

On January 18th, 2017, it was announced that West Chester United SC would be joining the NPSL for the 2017 season as an expansion team.

In its’ first season, the club finished third in the Keystone Conference with a 6-2-2 record. They went on to be defeated by the Clarkstown SC Eagles, now known as FC Motown, 1-0 in the conference semi-final.
